Frugal & Fab: DIY Halloween Costume
Poison Ivy
DC Comics’ fiery red head Poison Ivy enchants men only to slay them with just a kiss from her venomous lips. Nature’s botanical bad girl was the perfect inspiration on a budget for this Halloween. A few moons ago, I went as the Biblical bad apple, Eve and surely gave many something to sin about. If you’re looking for something sexy, unique and on a budget, keep reading, this will help you create a frugal and fabulous Halloween costume!
Supplies:
-hot glue gun (mini is less expensive for under $10)
-glue sticks (under $5)
-fabric glue (Walmart)
-ivy or any other leaf on a garland (Dollar Tree, Walmart)
-bikini bottom (Walmart or any discount retailer for under $6)
-bathing suit top or bra (best option for fuller D-cups and up. I wore a DKNY ballconet bra from Loehmann’s for under $20)
Accessories:
-fake snake (Spirit Halloween $20)
-apple (Walmart $1)
-hosiery (Walmart under $5)
Directions:
For best results, start gathering supplies at least a week or two in advance. For women with fuller cup sizes, wear a style/cut bra that you know works for your body type. To save, buy the fashion color to that bra at a discount retailer. STEP 1. If you purchased a garland of leaves, clip each off. You may have to purchase about five (5) garlands, depending on how full the manufacturer makes it. STEP 2. Using the fabric glue in a well ventilated area, apply a generous amount of glue on to the back of your leaf of choice and then apply to your top piece, applying pressure. STEP 3. Continue until the entire top is covered. STEP 4. Repeat the process for the bottom, leaving the crotch area free. Follow the directions on the fabric glue for time needed to dry. For a faster turnaround time, use a hot glue gun and follow each step accordingly.
Total Cost: Under $30
Time: 2 hours-1 day
Poison Ivy
If you already have the “Eve” costume completed, this should be easy.
Supplies:
-additional ivy garland or desired leaf
-spirit gum and remover (Party City $3.99)
Accessories:
-red wig
-red or green nail polish (Dollar Tree $1)
-glitter dust

Making your makeup look fresh all day long with the summer heat and humidity is not easy to do. Glam Goddess Nikki Oxley shares several simple tricks that help you manage the drippy effects of moisture on your makeup.
1. Be Prepared for Touch Ups…No matter what type of makeup you use, it is going to need several fixes throughout the dog days of summer. Create a touch up kit to take with you.
2. Avoid oil based products and prep your skin with an oil-free moisturizer with SPF to avoid slippage
3. 150% recommend a matte face and eye primer for make-up longevity.
Favs, E.G. Givenchy Mr. Mat or Cargo Blu-Ray High Definition Mattifier
4. Preferred base…powder oil absorbing foundation to handle the shine.

6. Opt for waterproof products, especially with mascara, it will last longer.
Favs: Makeup For Ever Aqua Smokey Lash, Givenchy Phenomenon Eyes, Dior Show
7. Eyeliner must be 150% WATERPROOF!
Favs: Stilla Liquid or pencil or Urban Decay 24/7
Nikki Trick…apply a powder shadow over your liner for staying power J
8. Shadows should be a powder unless it’s a waterproof cream
